CloudStack day 2018

StorPool storage was happy to be part of CloudStack European User Group Day 2018

Yesterday, April 19th in London, UK took place  The CloudStack European User Group Day. A day, centered around the Apache CloudStack community, the technology behind it, and the benefits it brings to the user. If you couldn’t make it to the event this year, don’t you worry. Down below we are going to catch you up on everything you’ve missed.

 Apache CloudStack

CloudStack is one of the leading open source softwares, designed to deploy and manage large networks of virtual machines. To be more precise, CloudStack is a Java-based multi-hypervisor and multi-tenant cloud management platform. It offers  service providers public and private cloud services, as well as a hybrid cloud solution. By doing so, CloudStack helps a company significantly reduce the cost and time of building a multi-tenant IaaS platform. What sets apart the platform from its competitors is the fact that it supports all of the most popular hypervisors right now – VMware, Oracle VM, KVM, XenServer, and Xen Cloud Platform. The software is user friendly, being managed by a Web interface, command line tools, and a full-featured RESTful API. Additionally, a good reason customers choose the software is the fact that there are no licensing costs. Therefore, users can develop features directly in the project.

Who is ShapeBlue?

Shapeblue logoShapeBlue is the world’s biggest independent integrator of CloudStack technologies. Through the years they have worked close together to develop some of the largest network, storage, and compute infrastructures on the market. ShapeBlue designs and deveopls IaaS cloud infrastructures for both private and public cloud implementations. Along with all of that, ShapeBlue is the initiator of the annual CloudStack European User Group Day.

CloudStack day insights

The CloudStack conference is a day full of interesting talks about the technologies and latest innovations, surrounding the cloud community. We saw some great speakers take the stage this year – Paul Angus (“What’s new in CloudStack 4.11”), Antoine Coetsier (“Billing the cloud”) and many more. And of course, one of our own – Boyan Krosnov, StorPool’s Co-founder and CPO, gave a speech on the topic “Building a software-defined cloud with CloudStack”. He talked about the great collaboration between StorPool’s block storage and CloudStack. And also mentioned some of the benefits you can achieve with StorPool and CloudStack.

StorPool operates at near 100% efficiency, delivering all the performance available from the underlying drives and network. Additionally, StorPool can grow without interruption and in incremental steps – one drive, one server and one network interface at a time. Except scalable, StorPool is also extremely flexible. It provides a higher flexibility than any other storage system out there. Not less important is the security StorPool offers. Redundancy is provided by multiple copies of the data, written synchronously across the cluster. There is a end-to-end data integrity, which makes the data completely secure.
