StorPool and OpenNebula Systems teamed up to deliver a remarkable solution for any public or private cloud
StorPool is a new generation storage software (software defined storage 2.0). It runs on compute nodes (converged set-up) and delivers fast, reliable and scalable block-storage from these nodes. StorPool only does block-level storage and excels at it.
OpenNebula Systems is the company behind the OpenNebula open source project. OpenNebula is a leading Cloud management system – simple, yet powerful. It is easy to deploy, manage and grow. With StorPool for the storage layer and OpenNebula for the cloud management, any company building a cloud can now build efficient and high-performance IT infrastructure.
StorPool is a drop-in replacement of traditional SANs, all-flash arrays (AFA) or less-efficient storage software. Besides having significant technological advantages, running a cloud with StorPool and OpenNebula can considerably lower TCO and increase ROI.
“With StorPool, any OpenNebula cloud gets exceptional storage bandwidth, IOPS and low latency, enabling companies to provision many more VMs per host. Combining both products allows for seamless scalability in capacity and performance as well as increased reliability.” – comments Boyan Ivanov, CEO and co-founder of StorPool.
“OpenNebula features a flexible and modular architecture, giving this open source Cloud Management Platform the ability to interact with multiple components in the datacenter ecosystem. We are thrilled to broad our storage integrations with this new addition, which enables OpenNebula to support a storage backend as fast and reliable as StorPool” – said Rubén S. Montero, CTO of OpenNebula Systems.
StorPool is already integrated with OpenNebula. The integration is performed as a new datastore driver in OpenNebula. OpenNebula persistent and non-persistent images (virtual disks) are safely stored in a StorPool cluster with the usual high level of reliability and performance. OpenNebula controls and monitors the StorPool cluster. For example, when you create a VM in OpenNebula, it instructs StorPool to create a new volume for the VM, which may be based on a ONE template. When a ONE template is being imported it goes directly into the StorPool image data store.
About StorPool Storage
StorPool is block-level, distributed storage software. It runs on standard servers and builds a fast, scalable and reliable shared storage system out of these servers. StorPool is incredibly flexible and can be deployed in both converged setups (on compute nodes, alongside VMs and applications) or on separate storage nodes.
